Fines and Defence Insurance Policy

Introduction

Welcome to the Fines and Defence Costs page of our site. This provides a brief outline of the cover we have under this policy.

Definition:

  • Defence costs legal costs and expenses incurred in investigation and defending of any legal proceedings or threatened legal proceedings.
  • Fine fine payable upon conviction for an offence under the Health and Safety at work Act 1996 (Fiji), includes court costs, prosecution witness costs or any other costs ordered by the court of law.

What does the policy cover?

This policy covers for legal costs and expenses incurred for investigating legal proceedings if USP commits an offence under the Health and Safety at Work ACT 1996. If USP and/or employees are convicted, then fines ordered by the court of law will also be paid.

Why do we need this insurance?

This policy will defend and indemnify USP and its employees against legal proceeding instituted as a result of breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996.

What are we insured for?

Contact the Risk and Insurance Unit.

Reporting incidents

Do not admit liability. Inform Risk and Insurance Unit immediately.

  • All allegations of breach of professional services or knowledge of an event which may give rise to a potential claim must be reported to the Risk and insurance Unit.
